This canning book, Canning for a New Generation, has great basic recipes as well as out of the ordinary selections. I love the pickled pearl onions and the strawberry jam. I love the roasted red bell peppers and I love the tomato recipes. I love it all.

Well Preserved by Eugenia Bone is sophisticated and smart. Her book is formatted with one master recipe and then three recipes using that particular preserve following. It is smart and easy to understand.

Food in Jars by Marisa McClellan is an excellent resource for several reasons. I appreciate that she crafts delicious recipes in small batches. I may not be canning in an East Coast apartment the way she is, but my tiny kitchen and tight schedule require small batches often. Her directions are clear and this book is every bit as delightful as her blog by the same name.

1, 2, 3 Sew is a lovely sewing guide for several reasons. I like that it teaches a technique and then the following projects build on that skill (1, 2, 3!) to craft a more sophisticated and challenging project. It’s a smart way to teach sewing and I also love the fabric choices in the photos and the grown-up projects.

Zero Waste HomeZero Waste Home has inspired me to look critically at some of the ways I waste time, money, and resources in my home. The author, Bea Johnson, has gone zero waste in her home and her blog is a great place to read about how to reduce the waste in yours.
